A forum for Computer Hardware? For those of you who interest themselves in the world of computer hardware, could you please recommend a good forum that mainly focuses about building/upgrading computers and where the community is pretty active? I know Overclock.net exists, however, in your opinion, is there any other good one? Which one is your favorite / most liked?
Anyone know a good computer forum? I'm looking for a good computer forum/message board. One that has a lot of users and is visited a lot would be best. Basically, I am trying to get support for some computer hardware issues I am having.
What is the Best Computer Forum...? Okay, I am a member of a few, but they are slow at answering anything, or they don't answer at all. These forums have over thousands of members too! SO, I'm going to ask you all for a good computer forum to join and be a part of that offers computer hardware, software, guidence, help, and etc. I'm picky with how the site looks, so hopefully the site's you all tell me, they will be clean and not trashy, LOL. Thanks!
custom built computer forum?????? i been planing this for a long time but never get the chance to actually done it because i doubt myself, to built computer of my own (assemble it). so now am on a quest to learn as much as i can about the hardware and their aspect of it to prepare myself. you got to admitt that spending 700-1000 is a pretty big buck, and not guarantteeing that it will work is a big let down, and a waste of time... so is there a forum out there or a comunity where they dicuss, and debate on computer hardware that u know of... computer gaming is what am aiming for... greatly appreciated,
where can i find the best information regarding computer hardware? i live in sydney australia. what are some of the best websites and stores that you can build your own pc with the best of the best parts at the cheapest price? i hear people say on forums that they upgrade their pc for around $1,000 or $1,500. they buy the parts and build it themselves.
What's a good computer forum? I'm trying to find a good all-around computer forum that's active, and covers things from hardware, to software, to OSes, to gaming and modding, etc. (A buy, sell, trade section would be nice too) Can anyone recommend a good one?
Computer hardware Expert? Does anybody know where to find somebody good with computer hardware and computer-like (smartphones, PDAs, etc) hardware? I've tried the Linux forums only to realize that they specialize in operating systems. I'm trying to either build from the ground up or at least re-program a phone into a PDA (at least near to on par with a modern one, far beyond the capacity of the old green-and-black screen ones). A person would be better than a website but anything helps. I'm not looking for brief, technical support from a company so much as constant, inexpensive, even if it means sloppy, technical support from a person, even if this means a drop in quality or multiple visits to a reliable forum.

AMD - Computer Hardware Question? I plan on building a computer soon and I picked out an AMD processor (quad 3ghz), on some of the gaming forums that I use, people keep saying that AMD is crap such as "also, AMD? the hell is wrong with you" but nobody explains why. Whats wrong with AMD hardware compared to Intel? I know that AMD is cheaper but I don't think it would be that bad. o.O This is the processor that I picked out. http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=10360BD7705&vpn=HDZ940XCGIBOX&manfuacture=AMD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XgOmMAasqto Is this the reason why?
What are good computer help forums/websites out there? I'm looking for a computer forum or something that I can ask anything about computers on. Hardware, software, security problems I can ask. Some site where there is a good amount of people so I can get responses when I ask a question. Yeah Y/A is ok I think but I don't get a lot of replies and like you said the accuracy is questionable. Here your question expires in 2 or 3 days so after that you can't follow-up or a week later if you still have a problem you can't add more detail. That's the problem with Y/A is that there is someone who has Y/A who knows the answer to your question but that person only has 2 days to find your question out of all these other questions to go thru. If that person who can answer your question isn't on here for a week then your screwed. As every minute goes by your question goes lower on the list. After a couple hours your question is 4 pages down and I don't think people go that far. Kinda got off subject here.
No Answer From The Computer Forums Two Hours Ago (?)? Tried the Coumpter-Hardware-Other Hardware forum(s) to no avail. Can anyone tell me if I can take out my floppy (A) drive, and replace it with a zip drive (using the same hook-up/connections that were attached to my floppy/A drive)? Also, can anyone tell me what the red & black cable ends are on the end of keyboard hook-up - in other words, this keyboard (Hewlett Packard), that was given to me, has a multi-function wire or cable - one obviously to connect to the back of my tower, the other has red and black (male) ends, like something that a video game or audio device would have. Can I hook-up and use the keyboard without the red&black being attached to anything? THX in advance - g :)
Good and Friendly online forum to help me build a computer? Does anyone know of a good and friendly online forum on which I could ask some questions so they could help me build a computer? Here is the history: I'm getting myself a new gaming computer, but I don't live alone, and the other people that live with me need to use a computer and they are not computer savvy, because of past experiences I don't want them touching my computer so I'm going to build them one with some spare parts that I have, a pretty good computer that only has the motherboard broken and I'm going to try to use the same processor, memory and everything that I can salvage. The problem is that I've been out of the game for too long, and by that I mean that I haven't touch or learned anything regarding hardware in a long time (last time I was messing around with 486s and pentium IIs) So I need help finding out what king of motherboard I need to buy and if the components I have will work with it and stuff like that. I know how and I can build it, but I just need someone to do the thinking and I'll do the trained monkey stuff :D sooooooooo ... Do you know any good and friendly online forum with some hardware gurus that could lend me a hand? Thanks for answering... The link you gave me gives information on how to assemble and work on a computer, That I know how to do it, but I need help figuring out what is the name of my motherboard and which motherboard I should buy to replace it to make sure that my processor and memory will work on the new motherboard. And the forum looks like nobody uses it :(
Computer hardware: What do you think of MDG products? I discovered a flyer from MDG. I've never head of this company before. Their website: mdg.ca/save http://www.mdg.ca/Finance/Default.aspx?PID=openandsave The people on the following forum hate MDG products. http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/checking-up-mdg-ca-87445/ I would like to know what you think of MDG? Have you bought any of MDG product and hated it, or do you know if anyone you know personally hates MDG?
Would you help me to escape from my computer addiction please? My situation I really need your suggestions, info, links, et cetera to get me break away from this computer addiction please. I have been living with computer since its advent, and I have been too long in this bit and byte world. I have almost no problem with my family and/or social matters (maybe), but certainly, I have problems with myself. I realize that my addiction to computer and internet has seized big values of my life. Please do not assume that I am addicted to the gaming, gambling, chatting, or sexual leisure online. I think I have really got the most of the computing and internet, I got answers for my quests in life: history, languages, hobbies, health, skill improvement, and other eye-openers, but I realized that at the end I just barely do not recognize myself. I knew that before the PC arrival, I was a simple human with a romantic and artistic mind inside, and then later I evolved to such a robot, to be precise: a slave of the technology. The internet had made me more tied to the PC, at first it delivered me the news of the world, marvelous things found there within the clicks and so on, but then made me deep drown into the pond of information. The cost and the lost Having knowledge to computer hardware made me always upgrade my gears. It made me spend big cost just to fulfill my lust over those times. My room is full with the old gears, gadgets, and things from online stores. My PCs and notebooks are full with MP3s, PDFs, and many things downloaded both free and paid. I also spent for many external/ portable harddisks for backing up and traveling. I do not mean to showoff, I just tell you how worse it was from time to time during about 20 years. I sometimes think about the lost time for repairing my gears, updating my softwares, browsing; and how many books that I have not read completely. There was a break One time, in two straight months last year, I spent my times with my son playing Tamiya, small racing cars in small tracks. It was wonderful that it made me totally forgot my computers. We have had most of the time together for racing, modifying, winding the wires for the tiny motors, etc. My wife was so amazed that the toys have made me away from the PC. It ended because of the coming rainy season that made us packed and boxed back the tracks and cars, and I simply switched back to the old routine. In search of healing I remember a precious phrase: Two kinds of those who lost; they are who looks for wealth and for knowledge. This phrase sometimes wakes me up but bad habit is addicting and I found myself always returned into that path. I think it is just similar to drug addiction. As the internet is an endless resource, I search through it for the cure, and I have found some articles about it and tried to implement them, but it always hard for me to liberate myself from my habit. I really hope that finally I find it in this forum, especially from you. Your helps, Please I know that some of you are familiar to manage some types of dependence, or maybe you have healed from the same situation. Whether you have some psychological, spiritual expertise, certain medication, or exercises, please share your advice, I need it badly. I do not want to clog the rest of my life in that digital world. There must be somebody else also in pain from the same thing, your kind suggestion will be very valuable and it will save some life. Thank you very much for sparing your time reading this lengthy note. God bless you. PS: I post this in Computing & Internet, Health, and Social Science with time interval, hoping to net more inputs. Please do not waste your time to put any unpleasant or unnecessary words, consider it will not only read by me but also by the other fellow readers. If you are not in the same situation with me, you perhaps still have the advantage of knowing the answers. Thank you, again.
Computer Hardware Issue? Quick version: My brother wanted me to install Ubuntu on his 6-7 year old custom-built computer. I grabbed the 32-bit version, not realizing he has an AMD-64bit processor. Skip ahead, install freezes every time, skip ahead mouse disabled in XP, re-enabled in BIOS, now it freezes during memory test on on BIOS start up. I tried the remove and put RAM chips back in suggestion I've seen on a few forums for similar problems. I've taken every card out and put it back in place. I took the battery out for an hour to restart the CMOS, that killed the screen for a bit, got the screen back up and running, but now it still freezes on the memory test. What can I do that I haven't already done, besides replace the motherboard? Don't know the exact specs, here's the best of my ability to remember things: 6-7 year old custom built computer Windows XP Home Edition NeVidia GeForce 5300 AMD 64-Bit Processor

Hey what are good message boards for custom computer builders? I haven't actually built a computer (yet) but would love to see other people's set ups and see them talk about it and stuff, so that I would be more educated about that sort of stuff and oogle at the hardware. What forums has this? I know about Tom's Hardware Guide forumz but they suck! It is hardly active.
POWERCUT CAUSED MY COMPUTER NOT TO WORK .. RECENT SOFTWARE OR HARDWARE CHANGE? Hi, we had a powercut yesterday and since then my computer will not start up. The fan comes on then goes off sometimes quick then sometimes longer and gets me to the menu .. "We apologize for the iconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose 'Last Know Good Confuguraltion' to revert to the most recent setings that worked. If a previous startup attemp was interrupted due to a power failure or because the power or reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose 'Start Windows Normally'. 1.Safe Mode 2.Safe Mode wth Networking 3.Safe Mode with Command Prompt 4.Last Know Configuration (your most recent settings that worked) 5.Start Windows Normally" i have tried most of them. i have clicked start windows and it starts to load windows but then the computer goes off and then do it all again. i have read through forums saying about the motherboard or PSU may need changing? Just wanted to see if anyone had a solution? Many thanks Thanks for the quick replies, i was afraid of having to do that. Would putting the vista disk in and doing repair still solve the problem? just so i can keep my files etc.
Disconnecting a hardware device...will it fry the computer? I have a recording unit made by Zoom...and it connects to my computer via a USB interface. Have used it before without issues. It has a strict protocol for shut down: click on a 'Safely Remove Hardware" icon, and then click on a stop button to disengage the USB mass storage device. The manual states that if one does not follow the protocol, the computer may become unstable...and files on both units may be damage...or just burst into flames probably..anyway. for some reason I am getting a message that says "The device cannot be stopped because a program is accessing it"...this has been...several hours. So, I closed down a couple of anti virus programs...and disconnected the internet..did troubleshooters...all devices working properly...trying to figure out what might be accessing what. Probably nothing. Anyway, not supposed to yank out the USB connection...but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...I am looking at forums...I have XP...is there a gentle alternative? Hey...some good advice...I tried shutting off the indexing...and explorer.exe...and, well actually just one anti virus program...anyway...no dice with those possibilities...anything else I should look at through Task Manager? You all are great to give me some hope... Problem devices in my Tiny computer! I don't even know what question to ask!I know nothing about computers. I'm just about to give up, I have spent all week in computer forums. My brother gave me his old computer and I used it to play my Sims 2 game on. I am living overseas and frequent power cuts killed the computer. I used the reload/backup CD from Tiny and reinstalled the Sims 2, but got an error message saying there was no Direct X 9.0c compatible software. I looked into the Device manager and have yellow question marks next to USB, Video Controller and Video Cont. (VGA compat.) For Video Controller (VGA) it says Drivers are not installed (CODE 28). I have a drivers CD with the computer with several NVDIA drivers on and have tried installing them, but it still says there are no drivers and I have no idea what video Card this computer has! It must have all the hardware and softeware it needs soemwhere because it worked before. If you have THE SOLUTION please help me. Tiny went into liquidation and I don't need to be told to call a technician. That computer is not on the internet. MC, it's around 7 years old, I think. How do I find out the model. It just says Tiny Computers, AMD Athlon (tm) processor, 1.33GHz, 1.00GB RAM. I know it's ancient, but I only need to play this damn game on.

CD Drive Not being Recognized by Computer? Hi, I just bought a second hand computer for my son. It is a DELL Optiplex GX150 1.0 GHz and runs well. The CD drive, however, is not recognized. It does not light up, open and is not listed in the hardware. I know it worked recently because the person who sold it to me gave me the discs with Windows Xp, which he had just installed. Normally I will go to the forums but since this is an older, workhorse computer, the forums are zillions of posts long. I gave up after about 20 pages. It has a floppy drive which works well and I have some old Iomega drives kicking about somewhere, but I would like to know if there is anything I can do before shelling out any more money.
My computer wont beep or display.? I've just finishedbuilding a custom PC with a server board, and two cpus. I get no POST beep. I can turn it on, lights and fans go on, I can hear the HD and disk drives running. I don't have an onboard video card, but I tried two different PCI cards, nither of them worked. I've tried re-seating everything under the sun. I've tried using 4 different HDs, I've tried using two different disk drives... When all 5 RAM sticks are inserted I get a beep code like this; 1,3,3,1 Any other combo of RAM gives me NO beeps. With NO RAM it beeped; 3,4,3. I fear it might be the motherboard, but I was getting poers from the USB card to power my fan controler (because my fans were working) and the video card fan was running. I think what makes the most sence is a bad cpu, but even if one was bad, wouldn't the second take over? The odds of two bad cpus are slim to none. Also the computer hasn't ever displayed. I've read forums of computers that have once displayed, and then had hardware problems and had similar situations to mine. In one case it was the CPU, in another it was the Motherboard. Thank you for all your help.

Build PC Help??????????????????????????? Hi sorry, this is my first thread and i want to build my own custom pc. However, i have never build a pc before and only know the basics. On top of that i am on a tight budget, $400-600 AUD and this makes things hard. I intend to game on it (Cod, L4D, Mabye even Crysis if it works). I know that its a lot to ask on such a tight budget but i have spent hours googling and have come across these sites. http://www.hardware-revolution.com/budget-gaming-computer/ /forum-replies-archive.cfm/1271645.html http://www.maxishine.com.au/forums//viewtopic.php?f=15&t=9472 /forum-replies-archive.cfm/1371323.html http://forums.cnet.com/5208-7586_102-0.html?threadID=274309 Now i have read up on all of these but i don't know which ones the best one, where to buy the part e.t.c and was hoping you guys could help as i am really muddled up right now.
My computer shuts off by itself? My computer shuts off by itself, i dont know why, but i first thought that my ram was the problem. So i sent that in then just got it back yesterday and plugged it back in. My pc started working and probably 20 minutes or so after, it just shut off. I thought i had resolved the problem but i guess that i didnt. I dont know if its a hardware or a software problem. I was reading some forums and a few people had similar problems, some people say that it could be the processor but i dont know how to pinpoint what the problem is. i tried running it on safe mode but it still shuts off, juss not as soon as if it werent on safe mode. i believe that i noticed the problem when i downloaded a torrent. then it started giving me problems. i hope that if i reformat this everything will be normal. sometimes it shuts off like 4 seconds after i turn it on. alright, i just uninstalled the program which kinda started the problem. i uninstalled other spyware programs like limewire, and other bs stuff that i thought affected my pc. My cpu fan is runnin ryte now, its at 3200rpms and my cpu temp. is like 44C around 112F im not sure if thats bad or good. but if its bad please let me know i have to get some thermal compound lol.
computer help please? well i have got age of empires 3 and i want to play online but whenever i try to join a game i get a message popping up saying failure to join game i went on to ensemble studio forum and they said some checks i should do • Power Cycle your network hardware: Turn off your modem, router, and computer. Wait a few minutes then turn them back on one at a time in the listed order. Some routers need to be power cycled to except new versions of software such as Age of Empires 3. • Disable Anti Virus, Anti Spyware, and other security software while you play Age of Empires 3. • Upgrade your firmware on your router and your network card. • Verify your Firewall or internet security software is allowing AGE3 to pass through. • Disable your Firewall or internet security software temporarily while you test connecting to the game. • Toggle UPnP (If you have UPnP on, try turning it off and if you have UPnP off, try turning it on.) • Change your DMZ settings • Port forward UDP and TCP/IP ports 2300-2310 to your machine. If that range does not work try expanding it to cover ports 2300-2340, or try using the OverridePort command listed below. • Some routers have a Gaming Mode. Be sure to enable that option if your router supports this feature. • If your router has logging turned on make sure to clean off your logs or restart logging before playing Age of Empires 3 • Change your computers IP on your router. Example: if your computer sits at 192.168.0.100 change it to 192.168.0.200 Im not that good with ICT and i dont know how to do any of those. and could someone tell me which one is most likely to work. im running avg and i turn gameing mode on when playing on age of empires. my router is a BT home hub my my computer is conected with cable if that is any help?
What is the max RAM for my computer? I have an Emachines H5088 desktop computer with: -Intel Pentium 4 641 processor with HT capability; -Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950; -2GB RAM (made up of 2 X 1GB RAM sticks) I always had the impression that my Computer had a maximum RAM capacity of 4GB. However according to: http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/573759-all-i-want-some-ram.html the maximum RAM capacity is 2GB. I believe this to be false but I am unable to confirm it from the E-machines website or Google. However, I have two reasons to support my claim (at least in my mind). 1)The Processor according to this website http://www.ciao.co.uk/Intel_Pentium_4_641_3_2_GHz_processor__6568992#productdetail as well as my BIOS, is 64Bit capable. This implies that I could run a 64Bit OS. But there is little to no use for such a system unless you can get at least 4GB RAM. The Benefit of such a system is that it can recognize more than 3GB RAM unlike a 32Bit OS. So why add such an extravagant processor unless you can then upgrade (that’s where the real money is at... again personal opinion) 2)According to: http://parts.emachines.com/sys_lookup.asp if you go to select model, choose H5088 and then hit go, you get that for RAM you can get 512MB DDR2 (MAX. 2GB). I believe that this refers to one stick and not the whole system. Can someone please, please confirm this so that I can rest assured and upgrade my ram later to 4GB (I suppose in 2 to 3 years the norm for home computers will be a 64Bit OS). Even so my 2RAM are chewed up by my graphics card and Vista of course. Thank you in advance.

Alert! Previous thermal processor failure : thermal event, computer freezing, shutting off,and won't boot up!? DETAILES OF PROBLEM -------------------------- Ok I"ve been haivng a problem with my computer lately. First of all, It started when my computer suddenly froze, So I turned it off( by holdin fown power button) Then when I turned it back on,it would load into the BIOs screen(DELL logo,w/ status bar) for about 3 secs. then it dies off without notice. Well recently, someone suggested to reinstall the battery (inside; form mother board). SO I removed it,and placed it back, turn the computer back on. It did all the IDE configuration thing....Then an Alert message came up, stating ALERT!|Previous thermal processor failure.(the first time I did this,it said thermal event/error,now it says this all the time I reinstall battery). Also, I checked the system event log(f12) and noticed, it said " CPUO TEMPERATURE" like 10 times.I think it also said CMOS Battery error, but I think that's from the reinstallation of the battery... SO anyways, I then proceeded into windows... I was able to log in (it didnt die yet) But then after about 5 minutes, It froze again(just like the very begining),but the computer didn't turn off,it just stayed frozen. I turned off the comp, turn It back on, and did the same thing(shutted off after 3 sec). SO basically It's a repeat. I can only boot up when I reinstall the battery.....but then It does the same thing again(freezes...) MORE INFO:http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/462402-cpu-overheating-problem.html Thanks for that ,I'll try to TRY that hahaha.. but I don't get the thermal paste n suffs thing, like what's that,is there like a guide or something.. ohhh and 2nd reply, uhhmm this is not a registry problem,it's a famous dell problem..... Hope more people hav suggestions!!!!HELP!!
External Hard Drive not showing up in My Computer (Location0)? I just got a western digital external usb hard drive I am having some trouble getting it to show up on my computer. On my desktop I am running xp with sp2. When I connect it (and yes I have tried different usb's) it says it is installing, new hardware installed, restart computer. Once I restart i can not see my new HDD in my computer. I can see it through device manager but I cannot access it. The status says its working fine but when I go into properties most of the options and information are greyed out and unavaliable. I have searched forums near and far and have found a number of solutions, none which work for me. 1. The hard drive is not defective, when plugged into my laptop running vista it works like a charm 2. Yes it is compatible w/ XP 3. I cannot make changes to the letter which corrisponds with it, when I go into disk manager it appears as "Disk 0 -basic" says nothing about NTFS and doesn't allow me to change a thing. 4. I formated it using my laptop, no dice. Help! I can always see it on my "my computer" on my laptop both before and after I formated it. It showed up as F:/ (and no F:/ is not in use on my desktop) I also used tweakUI to make sure that all the different letters are checked off to work. I don't know if it makes a difference or not but my computer has no problem reading and recognizing usb flash drives. And lastly, as said by amy... how do I convert it to FAT32? (I don't see why it would have a problem reading it as NTFS since both C: and my internal hard drive (D:) are oth in NTFS format and have no problems. Also it did not come with any disks and according to the website its not supposed to, I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling the drivers and still no dice. *******This may be important: I just noticed when I uninstall the driver (i tried to do it again) it says uninstall complete, please restart. Last time after restarting I just plugged it back in, this time I decided to check the device manager driver list again and to my surprise the driver was still on the list. As a matter of fact when the computer finished rebooting, it said "new hardware found" in the little bubble on my task bar even though my hard drive is not even plugged in. I FIXED IT Ok this is going to sound so dumb. I have tried this with two different usb cords (one about 3 ft and one about 4ft and also with a usb extension with 3 ft usb once i got sick of climbing under the desk to unplug it 100 times. The 3ft usb worked fine with my laptop. The HDD came with a 1ft ubs cable (rather uncomfortable) but I decided to give it a shot. I unplugged every other USB from my desktop and plugged it in using the USB it came from... and there it was. No restart, No installing, nothing. Just showed up in about 2 seconds. Can the length of a cord matter? And how come it worked fine on my laptop. Jebbbus.
How do i fix my sound problem? Well, i have my speakers plugged in correctly but the sound wont work for any applications at any time. It basically stopped working over night. The speaker is on but the computer doesn't detect the hardware device. The volume control is gone, i tried going to the control panel > hardware devices> blah blah blah and there wasn't my sound driver there. I need some serious help with this. I tried using some other forums, websites, and the windows troubleshotoer i got nothing to work. help plz?
is there some sort of program that will check my hardware? I'm having problems with my computer, the explorer.exe constantly crashes, I manually open it through Task Manager (New Task...) but it just crashes within seconds. I'm online, and I can use Internet explorer, but IE7 doesn't let you navigate through your hard drive like IE6 did. I reformated my computer a couple of days ago because of this same problem but now it's come back. I've been reading forums and I've tried everything. it's not a virus or spyware, I'm thinking it might have to do somethin with the motherboard. my question is, is there some sort of program that finds out if there's errors within the computer? (note: I don't mean programs like reg editors or system mechanic, I mean for the hardware)
Why doesn't my computer spot these drives? I have 2 drives on my computer: Memorex 52MAX 325216AJ and a Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-R5112 My computer says it can no longer find the drives. Why is this? I got a code 41 and replugged the IDE cable. Now I am confused because it shows up but the device can't be found. Then I uninstalled the drivers thinking that would help, but now it gives me a Code 19 saying a hardware error. Is there anywhere I can find the hardware for these drives on the internet? I think everything is plugged in, but it still isn't working. Any suggestions or links to forums would also be appreciated. All right I misphrased the question. My computer spots the drives but I get the alert symbols anyways. These are not new drives. I have had them installed for a half year. They are plugged in and recognized by BIOS. Today all of a sudden they just won't read CD/DVDs and they don't show up in my computer.
Green AV is destroying my computer. Can someone help? Well I think my computer might be done for. Out of no where Green AV started popping up, and started to tell me I had viruses. You know doing the typical trojan thing, and trying to get me to buy it. So I went looking for help in a forum to get rid of it. So like everyone else I was told to download Malwarebytes. So I download Malwarebytes(or "MBAM") from the website that the a person from the forum told me to, and as soon as I sarted the first Malwarbytes scan my computer started to have some more problems. Now Green AV keeps sending me a message that says "Green AV has detected spyware program Win32.Monster.fx that is trying to attack your computer.Do you want Green AV to block the attack?" Now I've done some extremely fast research and I know Win32.Monster.fx is a fake threat but when I tell Green Av not to block the attack my computer actually goes to a black/blue screen with the follownig error message: "A Spyware application has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer If this is the first time you've seen this Stop Error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps: Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need. Begining dump of physical memory.... Pysical memory dump complete restarting computer." It's doing this over and over. I've ran a full Malwarebytes computer scan, rebooted my computer and still Green AV exists. I can't get rid of Green AV for some reason. And I have no disc drive so I can't restore my computer or back up any files. Does anyone know what's going on? Is my computer done for? Is there any way I'm going to get rid of Green AV? What should I do next? Keep in mind I have no disc drive so I can't use back up discs or any other discs of any kind if that is what is required.
Where can I find a laptop or a desktop computer with PC-BSD Operating System Preinstalled? Or at least is there a list of computers where it works "out of the box". I really would rather it be pre-installed. I am tired of reading of the hundreds of "laptop lists" and hardware lists that say "works 100%, only had to type bla bla bla into the Terminal or Konsole or whatever, install this and that, run this script, reboot, then type this from this forum and that from that forum, reboot, another script, more typing, and 72 hours later... works Perfectly :p" No no no, :p I need it to work with absolutely no typing in terminal, no additional "fixes" Where can I find a laptop and or Desktop where I just run PC-BSD exactly out of the box. No fixes, not even five letters in the terminal. Not one single letter..... or number.. or symbol :p Must have wireless internet, dialup (even if external usb or seial modem etc ok) flash drive usb, sound, all the basic necessities to just surf Internet, listen to music, email, office like documents, thats it, no games, programs. Just ac omputer that will work. Sorry for rant. So where to a find a PC-BSD Computer? P.S. I would have picked Mac were it not so expensive, and so many OS upgrades. I already have Linux (and so I had to do many fixes in the Terminal) and I have a Windows machine (even tho I dislike Windows)
My computer is constantly crashing and has been for months now: I need serious help please? For months now (many of them) my PC has been crashing after about only 2 or 3 minutes of web surfing. The whole operating system crashes often and if that doesn't happen, the screen will freeze, leaving nothing operable. I have asked this question on many forums but no one can help so please please can anyone here help? Im in dire need of PC assistance. i run windows xp home edition on an Intel Celeron system. I can only use the PC in safe mode as of the last year or so and the last few months of the year, my OS constantly crashes in Safe Mode too The last 3 months or so i have noticed this harbinger to a crash...the system will come up with a small error box on the screen saying Protection:45 and upon clicking OK, the PC 8 times out of 10 crashes (whole OS). I have always been of the impression that my modem (as hardware) is causing the issue) as when it is not connected, the PC doesn't crash. My connection line is fine but i think the modem itself might be the cause I am connecting to my PC via Ethernet so maybe the crashing is due to a connection the modem is trying to make with the PC but it ONLY ever crashes with such regularity when the modem is switched on. error messages in Error Viewer upon reboot state errors such as DCOM (in system error) and VSS and Eventsystem (in Application error) besides others. sometimes when rebooting it will even say corrupt file ntoskrnl.exe and it asks me to reboot all of windows. I then can restart my PC again and it won't state this but still crash soon into surfing the net. The BSOD is a feature i see quickly before the majority of OS crashes (it flashes on for a split second only). Please can you help me???? After a quick check upon boot up, my CPU Temp is 47 celcius/109 degrees System Temp is around 32 celcius normal or bad?
Computer randomly restarting. Memtest finds no errors.? I just bought a computer this week and I'm very happy with it aside from the fact that it keeps restarting at completely random times. Whether I'm letting the computer idle while I do something else, or browsing forums like these, or even when I'm playing Crysis. There is no rhyme or reason to explain how how often it restarts and I think that's the most frustrating part. I've tried running Memtest86 and letting it run for a total of over 40 hours and over 24 passes of my 4x 2GB Corsair XMS3 ddr3 and it has not found anything. I should also mention that during all the Memtest'ing the computer did not restart at all. It usually restarts once or twice ever 4 hours so going 40+ hours without any restarts is pretty interesting to me. I've tried uninstalling the drivers on my video card and reinstalling them but it restarted a few hours later. I'm really confused.. The manufacturer tells me I can send back any parts I want for an exchange but I really don't want to deal with the weeks it takes to work through the mail. I've played with this system under pretty heavy load before and it worked great which makes me think the hardware it's self is ok. Anybody got any ideas?

Problems with ubuntu/Linux hardware drivers? OK, I have a little problem with Ubuntu 8.04. I installed it as just a secondary OS with Vista. It ran great and found all the hardware drivers. I wanted to get rid of vista, so I reformatted my HD so I could just install ubuntu. It installed but it won't find all of the hardware drivers. I have tried 32 bit and 64 bit (my computer can handle both) with no accomplishment. To see the full story, go to the link below. I made a post on afterdawn forums and no one could help me... http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/683092 I have tried ubuntu 8.04 (which worked the first time) and ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 2
Cant Install any hardware on my comuter. FOund New Hardware wizard does not work and i cant use USB devices!? Hi, about 4 months ago my computer stopped recognizing USB devices for some reason and everytime i plugged them in the new hardware wizard popped up, i clicked next and it would search for about 2 seconds then say windows cannot install the new hardware. All this stuff was on my compute rbefore and none of it works now, printers, mp3 players, flash drives, even my usb keyboard, i had to buy a new one with a ps2 connection! I looked thorugh forums and they told me to delete all USB drivers and then uninstall all USB devices, port and hosts off the device manager and when i turned it on they should reset themselves but when i did turn it on all that happens is Found NEw Hardware pops up, with unknown devices, and when i click install it just runs for 2 seconds and says it cant install them. I trying leaving power supply off for 2 hours and still no luck. Ive also downloaded the chipset drivers from intel and no luck there. Ive also tried manually installing and that doesnt work either!
Computer freezes every time I transfer large files to a usb connected device/harddrive? I built this computer in early 2006. Decent components (amd 4400+, 1 gig ram, video card, etc.) It can take a heavy load of dvds/games/transfering so it must be a hardware malfunction, right? My usb ports seem fine; I can plug my mouse, keyboard, ipod, or harddrive into the usb connection in the back of the computer and windows will recognize them and let me browse files. But as soon as I start transferring large files (500 mb or more) my computer just stops functioning. I can't hit ctrl-alt-del, it won't eventually unfreeze (left it on overnight) so I just have to hit the restart button and only part of the transfer will make it to the hard drive or ipod. Its not just my personal devices it will do it to anything you try transfering large files to. Very frustrating >:( I've checked different forums and have not really found a solution. Checked the device manager, no problems. Even bought DriverMax so I'd have upgraded drivers. Still does it. Please help me! I don't really feel like taking it to see anyone what are your DIY solutions? Ok I just tried changing the virtual memory for the connected drive. It worked well after I rebooted and allowed me to transfer a 1gb file. But the next file I sent was larger and the machine crashed at about 1.5 gigs of data transferred. I played with the virtual memory and tried changing it for both the c drive and the attached external drive and it continues to crash. Now I get a flash of blue screet of death before it self reboots.
