IBM laptop computer??????/? ok , i got a old laptop computer. i am not sure what year it is but i do know that it is a IBM think-pad 770, and it has windows 98. what i am thinking about doing is getting rid windows 98 and installing windows xp or vista. but i have a problem and hoping someone can help please i am willing to give ten points and 5 stars to best answer. the problem is that the screen on the laptop is always dark, i can barley see what is on the screen. and have to put a flash light at a surtan angle to see what is on the screen try-ed adjusting the brightness on the screen by the buttons on the screen but it really dosent do nothing. it also has start up problem so i haven't gotten far to tha windows yet but i am not worried about that now. the only thing i care about now is being able to see what is on my computer screen and how to fix that??

How can i fic a ibm laptop with a dead monitor/ black screen even though the computer itself turns on? How can I get drivers for my IBM X40 laptop? I have reinstalled installed Windows on my IBM X40 laptop and need the drivers it requires. From a different computer, I visited the IBM website and downloaded the necessary .exe files to my USB flash drive. I tried to install them to the X40 laptop but even after installing and rebooting there seems to be no change at all in the Device Manager. For now, I just want to get the Ethernet driver so the Internet works. The necessary .exe files are of the drivers. I have extracted the Setup.exe file for the Ethernet card and done the following: Start>Run>WLLANATH>Setup.exe. ... but the network card still does not show up in the Network Connections. I was able to install the audio driver by the above mentioned steps with the audio setup file. For some reason, I am unable to install the Ethernet driver following the same steps.

Today went to comp, saw black screen, said: PXE - E61: Media test failure, check cable PXE - M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent. Operating System not found Rebooted; booted up fine. Walked away. Later got error message again, did same steps, same results. Called IBM. Went to BIOS, changed boot order. Hard drive, then DVD drive, then all else. Said processor might be problem, but didn’t think was hard drive. Walked away. Later screen wouldn’t come on (stayed black, but disk on). Rebooted, booted up fine. Comp emitted clicking/screeching noises. Blue screen appeared, said: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. How do I tell if I have a hardware problem or a virus on my IBM laptop? A few days ago my IBM thinkpad (model T30) started acting up. Parts of the screen started to blink quickly, vertial and horizonal lines appeared, and now it has trouble starting up - if it stars up at all.
