Desktop Computer Packages

How do I transfer Powerpoint from one computer I own to another (desktop to laptop)?

I use my laptop almost exclusively, but it never had Microsoft Powerpoint software. My new (used, rmmage sale find) desktop has Can I click and drag/drop or copy the entire file onto a CD/drive, will it then copy so I can just move it then from Explorer onto my laptop, into a file and run it? (It's not gonna be that I easy, I can tell right now.....)

  1. you'll have to install it from the micorsoft office disk. That will definatly work. I'm not sure about copy all its files and moving it over.
  2. No you can't. PowerPoint is an embedded application of Microsoft Office, and you have to purchase either Microsoft PowerPoint or Microsoft Office for your laptop. There are free substitutes though; you can use OpenOffice.org on your laptop - it has a presentation software called Impress which is very similar with PowerPoint and very similar to it in features too. http://openoffice.org/ :)
  3. you have to install ms office. If you have the originl office disks then it can be legally installed on a laptop. Office license allows it t be installed on a desktop and laptop at the same time.
  4. Well -YES ! Presentations can be transferred to a CD or Stick and transferred to your laptop. But your laptop has to have the POWER POINT VIEWER-that you can download from Microsoft.Since you only have the viewer you CAN'T change anything in that presentation-just look. In Power Point -save as -is a option save on disk-then the viewer will be put on your CD or stick.BUT that program Office from Microsoft can not legally be put on more than one computer. 5. no but you can get the powerpoint runtime and run all the files without powerpoint and just use the desktop to create them or take the drive from the desktop and place it in an external case. or get portable editions of open office or msoffice on BT
  6. You may be able to use the file and settings transfer wizard. In XP this is in Start/Accessories/System Tools. It will open a wizard that will take you through the necessary steps. The wizard will then have to be run on your laptop. It can be done by direct connection of the pc's or by saving on removable media. I can't guarantee it will work for Powerpoint, but it will take 1/2 an hour or so to find out. You can't drag and drop the files because the program will not be registered on your laptop and you will probably be asked to re-install from the original cd. There are legal implications, which vary depending on where you live, but if you do this and uninstal powerpoint from the original pc, I understand this to be legal in most countries. However, I must warn you I am not legally trained and if you succesfully transfer the program I will not be held responsible. You must check the relevant law or take your own chances.
  7. If you have an USB(Universal Serial Bus)then you can transfer any files from your computer to another computer/laptop just insert your USB to the USB port on your main computer then copy the files of MS powerpoint then paste it in the USB drive located in my computer, then insert your USB to your laptop and go to my computer(laptop) open the USB drive then copy the MS powerpoint files and paste it to any wanted folders or create one,and done.
