Can I store my music from my computer on an external storage drive/USB?
Hey, I have a whole library of music on my computer that I don't want clogging up my hard drive. I've seen those little USB drive things for sale (anywhere from 256 mb up to 1 gb or 2 gb), and I was wondering, could I fit my music on one of these and still be able to access it later? I'm a novice computer user so I have no clue what the best solution would be for me. I don't want to delete my music or just burn it all to cds, so I was hoping this might be a good alternative. What do you think? Oh, and do I need a specific brand or anything to work with my computer? I have an HP a1110n computer (a desktop with a flat panel monitor). Does that information matter when going to buy one of these storages drives? Thanks. Okay, so if I save my music to dvd, can I delete them from my computer? Or should I get an external hard drive, load them to that, save them to dvd, and then delete them? Just trying to figure out what to do first. Thanks.

- yes you can but if you have a lot i would suggest an external hard drive
- Doesn't matter what kind of computer you have. Just buy a USB-drive (2 GB should be okay), and plug it in to a USB port. If it does not automatically open, go to "My computer" and look for the drive, click it, then select all of your music files, and drag them into it. Then wait for them to transfer, and delete them off your computer. Or you can buy an external hard drive (like I did) and do that. That was you have more storage.
- if it is really that much music then you should get a good sized external hard drive. Anything you put on there can be accesses as long as it is connected to the computer.
- Definitely. Your choice of either depends on how much music you have. Open your music folder and press control A at the same time, that will highlight all your songs and on the left of the Explorer pane or down the bottom, it should show you how many Gb or Mb of music you have. This will determine whether you need a Flash drive or an external hard drive. However, I'd still burn a backup of the music onto DVD in case the flash drive gets lost or the external drive goes kaput!
- Put all of your music on a DVD, in case of a mishap, like deleting the files before transferring them. However if they are from Itunes, you need to put them on an Ipod, otherwise, you would have to buy the music again.
- You can save in ehternal drives. I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems. Some RAM/hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful
