HOW DO I RESTART MY COMPUTER WITHOUT THE WINDOWS DISK?
I have an old IBM laptop computer. I don't have the disc to restart it. I've tried everything. I've restored the system to the earliest date. I've presses f8 but there isn't any option about a c disk. I'm totally lost! okay so i think i might have found the windows xp disk. How do I know if it'll work?

- Im also trying to restart my computer but dont have the disc. so ill be here
- If there is no C: then either it is trashed and unreadable or there never was one and it booted from a floppy. In either case that laptop is probably too old to be of much use unless you are starting a computer museum.
- You can restart it via the operating system GUI. In Windows, you can go to Start->Reboot (or Restart...something like that, I don't have an English language version of Windows available to me today). It sounds, however, like you would like to reinstall your operating system or restore your computer to factory settings. If so, here are your options: a) Use restore partition if you have one b) Use restore disc if you have one (you said you don't, but I'll list this just for the sake of completeness) c) Use a generic installation disc for your operating system. You can purchase these in stores d) If you don't have a restore disc but your computer is under warranty, it may be possible for you to get a free restore disc mailed to you if you call customer support via telephone. e) Use a freely distributable operating system, such as a UNIX or BSD-like operating system. EDIT: It will work if it was shipped with the computer. If it was shipped with a different type of computer, it will not work. It will also work if you bought it at a store or online. In other words, if it is a generic installation disc and not a `restore disc`, then it will work on any supported hardware. Or you could just try it. I mean, if it works, then it works. Problem solved. If it doesn't work, then it doesn't work. Problem not solved.
- I am not sure if it would work with laptops but it just might since software is software. When you turn it on start pressing F10 like crazy before it goes to the start up menu. That should take you to the place where you can restore to factory settings. Hope that helps!
