  1. you can just delete all of them one by one but then someone could just recover it back if they really wanted. other than that there is no other way but to completely kill everything with this software. http://www.killdisk.com/
  2. that is my choice also and run it 7 times --that is military standard ---none recoverable data killdisk.com and it is free and does the job
  3. You can never be sure you have deleted all personal info from your computer, a quick way to delete some sensitive info it could be to create a new user in Windows XP with administrator rights (you need at least one user to be able to login) and then delete your old one or all other user profiles you used (you can find Windows user profiles in DocumentsAndSettings\your_user_name). Also make sure you uninstall all personal software you've payed and used and delete your personal folders and documents (also if Windows is not part of the deal you should just format the hard drive). But the safest way remains the hard drive format and Windows reinstall (if you want to sell the XP too).
  4. DBan will shred all your data. And it doesn't have a "free" version and "professional" version. It's totally free and does everything.
  5. Option "A" (1) Disable system restore point. (2) Now access user accounts and delete all accounts except Administrator account. Do not keep any files or folders from account that you are deleting. (3)Now create another account and give administrator permission to this account. (4) Log off from computer and log back on with new user account. (4) Delete old administrator account and all folder and files associated with this account. (5) Now download some software to over write the information that you had just deleted. This will not give you 100 security that no one can recover the information that you had deleted but chances are less. http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/lsm_delete_user.mspx?mfr=true http://support.microsoft.com/kb/279783 Option "B" To be safe side download the disk eraser SOFTWARE from following site and erase your hard drive for at lease 7 times. Now reinstall your operating softare and hand over your computer to the Buyer. http://www.killdisk.com/
  6. You may have an option to restore your computer to factory default (how it was when you booted it for the first time) - of course, this is a reinstallation. Did your computer come with a manual? If so, it should have instructions on how to perform a factory default restore - provided you have that option. Of course, you should still perform a secure deletion of your free hard drive space (after the restore). Eraser is a free program that includes an option to do this. Depending on how big your hard drive is and on how much time you have, I would first suggest only '1 pass'; any more than that, and it may take a *long* time to perform. Of course, you can always perform another 3 or even 7 after that (depending on how much time you have and are willing to let it perform for). Eraser - http://www.heidi.ie/node/6
