Do you like being a computer hardware engineer?

I want answers from anyone who has a job in this field to answer these questions? do you like your job? Do you have time for Family? Do you have to work alot with people on projects? What kinds of work can I do after college? Like would I be able to work at a cell phone company designing so and so.. that sorta thing.

1. I am a systems engineer and have been for about 20 years. I love my work. I specialize in store systems and WAN support. I always had time for my family except on some occasions when I have been on emergency call. When a store goes down (especially a big one), they are loosing thousands of dollars an hour, and they gotta have help and quick. Takes a special breed to handle that. The last three years with my current employer have been the most brutal working hours, and the worst work experience I have ever had in my life. This is not because of the actual job. It's because of a lot of management and logistics issues. I have another offer an I will definately take it shortly, and when I put the current guys firmly in the rear view mirror I will be sooooo much happier. This job is never the same, never boring, a real brain challenge, lots of travel and new places, you get to learn new stuff every day. Also you get to work with all kinds of interesting people. In the technology industry, they need qualified people like crazy (the key is qualified). There are a lot of companies sliding into oblivion and you need to be real careful who you "connect" with on the career ladder.

Yes love my jobs, both of them, I do not have family so I don't have to worry about that time, and yes I work on projects that involve a lot of people, I did own an office machine repair shop for 17 years, now I set up and strike corporate shows and concerts, and do repairs at home, I don't know what you have in mind for a career, but one thing you should do is love what you do, then worry about the money, hope this helps and good luck.
3. I'm only 14, and I'm certainly not one. I sure do enjoy working with computers, I built my machine, I like to mod it alot, as well as fixing computers. Yes i live with a normal family- papa, mama, and siblings. I plan to go to college and go for the engineering direction but I have not made any plans on which branch of engineering I want to head to. I may enjoy working with computers but I certainly don't want this to be part of my life.
4. Im still 17 but iv lived and breathed technology since my birth now i run a small computer company with the help of my friends its grate fun and i have a blast there is allot of people in the field i love to help people with the computer problems. Im going to collage and into the military for computers and networking. My time is a bit limited than it was before and sometimes i can get my assignments done but im enjoying what i do.
