Does the type of RAM my computer is compatible with change what other hardware is compatible?

Like if my computer has DDR RAM & I get a DDR3 video card, like the EVGA 9800GT, will it be compatible, or does it not matter. I'm still a nub with computer hardware, so I'm asking lots of question. lol Thanks! P.S. if you know of any popular computer forums, please post its address. Thanks, again! & don't worry about the type of slot, that I fully understand.

  1. No, the type of RAM does NOT change what other hardware is compatible.
  2. RAM on the computer is seperate to that of a graphics card (as long as it isn't an integrated graphics card) the type of memory on the graphics card will just mean that the graphics card will be quick as GDDR3 (not to be confused with DDR3) is very fast memory providing that the connection to the motherboard is compatible and the amount of RAM and processor speed is adequete also to cope with the graphics cards throughput on the system then you're good to go another thing to consider is if the PSU is up to the job cos if not you'll blow it and have to buy a new one feel free to email me from my profile page for further questions and queries
  3. go to crucial.com and run their system scan. That video card will be compatible, it has nothing to do with system memory, just system slot it fits.
  4. no, it doesn't matter go here for more help on such matters www.buildyourown.org.uk hope this helps
