How do i fix my sound problem?

Well, i have my speakers plugged in correctly but the sound wont work for any applications at any time. It basically stopped working over night. The speaker is on but the computer doesn't detect the hardware device. The volume control is gone, i tried going to the control panel > hardware devices> blah blah blah and there wasn't my sound driver there. I need some serious help with this. I tried using some other forums, websites, and the windows troubleshotoer i got nothing to work. help plz?

1. Can you see your sound drivers on the device manager or not? If not try restoring your system to earlier date... and see if the sound works.
2. Try replacing your sound card. That's what I had to do.
