Should i buy a new desktop computer or should i save my money ?
I got this 8 year old desktop dell computer and it works pretty good, before it ran slow because i ran internet explorer which has a lot of bugs and then i switched to mozilla firefox and now it runs faster. It has windows xp home edition and it has 1 GB of ram. I wanted to get a new computer on the after thanksgiving sale but my parents suggested that i save my money up. Do you think i should save my money if my money if my computer works good ?

- If you can't afford it, don't. Simple.
- If it ain't broke don't fix it. If it basically does what you need no need in buying another unless you want the latest and something new. More than likely if you are doing the same thing on the new one that you are now you are more than likely wasting money..but its your money. I found my self buying crap I know I don't need but it feels good to have something new sometimes.
- get a new puter the day after thanksgiving sell the old one on craigslist your parents will like the idea of a sale and you upping some of the money i personally buy my kids new computers every 3rd year cuz they are always changing
- u might want to get a new computer. but ur parent r right u should save ur money, or u can save money then get a new computer
- If your computer still works good you should save up your money.
- Save money for used PowerMac4,1 which is an Imac.
- I think what you could do is find a compromise. You might want to consider kicking up the memory amount to at least 2 gigs, you would probably see a performance improvement in that. If your mobo takes at least two gigs, do it. That should help. Maybe, try upgrading your video and put a bigger hard disk in. If you make some of these modest changes, it might cost somewhere between $150 - $200 and you would have a fairly good computer. With a larger hard disk, you could try and dual boot to a Linux distrubution. Some versions of Linux are already superior to Windows 7 and Linux works especially well on old computers. Try Ubuntu or Fedora Core. If I were you, would look at a 1 Teribyte drive, if you have XP SP1a or above on your XP CD. This way, you get some of what you want and they get some of what they want. Buying computers is like buying cars, they devalue over time. And with the economy, the way it is, I completely understand where they are coming from.
- I had same problem when VISTA came out. My Dell desktop just would not die. It was too good. Tried to break it to justify buying a new desktop...no success. So I just gave it away and went ahead and bought new Dell desktop with VISTA. It has been a dream. Nice machine. Even bought another Dell a year later. May buy another for wife in few weeks.
- If you think your dell works good, then new computers will blow you away. I would definitely wait until thanksgiving, and then look at more dells. I am going to do the same thing. By then, windows 7 will be out, and you will find a great deal for your money. If you use your computer for casual purposes, go with the inspiron. If you are looking for it do a little more, go with the Studios. If you are looking to get as much as you can for a small amount of money, always go with ordering desktops straight from the dell website. You can customize it, and they have great tech. support.
