- Go to www.newegg.com and buy the computer that matches $700. They give you the most bang for the buck, so do it now. I added a pc and a monitor for your reference. I know, I know... you're welcome.
- If you can reuse your hard drive and optical drives and your OS and your case and your power supply. i will say the following. 200 for the 22" LCD monitor ( on sale ) 500 for the desktop following 2GB of DDR2-800 ( $40 ) middle of the road PCIe-video card ( $120 ) Core2Quad Q6600 ( $240 ) Cheap to middle G31 or G33 base motherboard ( ~100 ) If you can not re-use the OS, and drives then everything go down a big notch.
- The monitor (at least the flat ones anyway) will eat up the majority of that budget. You may be better off simply buying some ram sticks and a new chip (if the socket type hasn't been discontinued). I hear that HP and Acer are making a couple cheaper budget computers with integrated video hardware but when it comes to a tower integrated it usually a nono although the x3100 is a phenomenal performer for a integrated chipset. If you absolutely need a new machine, building your own will give you the very biggest bang for your buck, perhaps talk to your local computer shop (not best buy, but a REAL computer shop) often small shops can offer a very agressively priced machine as long as you don't mind a very plane looking tower case.
- The current PC sounds fine to me, unless you are gaming. IF gaming select one with a decent video card otherwise a 2.0MHZ with 500mb and a 120GB HD should be fine, for a long time. Compare the packages and select from there, you can always upgrade as well, a 700 dollar upgrade would work as well depending on the CPU and memory chipset!
- i would go with hp
- Dude, if your going to buy a computer, you cant skimp out. You need to suck it up and save up to $900 to get a decent pc if you want a new monitor. If you keep your current monitor, you can get a decent pc for $650+. Dell's inspiron series. ( www.dell.com ) Build one under desktops for home/home office. Upgrade components untill the price is just OVER $1000. Search for $350 off coupon code in google for dell pcs. Enter coupon code at checkout. for a desktop, decent means: 2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo proccessor or greater or in the case of AMD, an AMD x2 5000+ or greater 2 GB of DDR2 RAM 128MB video card for non gaming pc 256MB video card for gaming pc -------- Note: Above is -DECENT- for pc. Not crap, not good, and certainly not excellent. It would be considered time to buy a new one in a few (3)years from now.
