Desktop Computer Packages

I installed ram into my Compaq Presario Desktop Computer?

But when I go back to see how much ram is on the computer it hasnt changed. What do I do? I tried taking out the old one and putting in the new, I tried switching them, I tried everything, but it hasnt changed.

  1. Is it being recognised in bios? If it is make sure you choose to save settings when exiting the bios otherwise windows may not report the added ram when you look in system information. What type of ram did you buy and what is the model of the presario?
  2. Make sure you turn the computer off when you install the new ram so it can "reset" and then check for a differece in ram. ALso, some processors will only accept a certain amount of maximum ram...did you maybe already have the max amount and cannot install any more? One more thing to consider is this, some ram configurations require it to be installed in pairs...for example, you cannot have mismatched pairs..it is better to have two one gig cards than to try to put in one 2 gig card. Make sure also that if you have DDR2 ram that you are not trying to isntall a different tech card like DDR3. That wont work.
  3. Are you using compatible RAM ? Check your existing RAM, and compare the specification with the new one. Incompatible RAM will make it unreadable or even causing trouble.
  4. Most likelly you maxed out the motherboard limit before you even upgraded it, check the specifications of the mobo!
  5. Without knowing the Presario model number and the brand of memory and its model number, I wouldn't know.
