Is my compaq desktop computer upgradable?

3. This is a good question. Some parts are upgradeable, and some aren't. You would be able to check the parts on the compaq/hp website if you have the model number for the computer. Most of the time, there are parts that are upgradeable on a compaq, but you don't specify what kind of computer it is. If it is an older pc, it may be cheaper to go out and buy a new one at this time... You should be able to upgrade the hard drive, but there may be limitations on the motherboard. The RAM is most likely upgradeable, too, and parts like the video and the modem can be upgraded. Again, it is really hard to say what you may be looking to upgrade because you don't give info regarding the model of compaq pc you have...
4. all desktops are upgradable, but manufacturers such as compaq and dell usually don't provide the adequate cage that holds the drive in place. You can get around this, of course, by getting a new IDE cable that has adequate length between the old primary HDD (C:) and the new slave drive(D:). You can also just use the new IDE cable to plug the HDD just like the other cable is on your C:, only the base of the cable will be plugged into the motherboard in the secondary IDE slot. Most motherboards have two available ones. NOTE: I saw that dell was charging $60 or so for a new cage for my second hard drive. I got around this by buying an adapter to allow my hard drive to be fit into my larger bays below my DVD drive.
