My Compaq Evo Desktop Computer wont boot up from my other hard drive, How Come?

I have a maxtor 160 gig. and it works on my other cpu but when i exchange it with the regular Hard drive (40 gig.) in the compaq, The CPU will not boot up. Everything thing is installed properly but when i turn on the Compaq Evo desktop with the maxtor hard drive, the screen just says : " attempting to boot CD-Rom (d) " " attempting to boot Floppy disc (a) " " attempting to boot Hard Drive (c) " And it just stays on that screen and fails to attempt to boot hard drive... SOMEONE Please Help. I have everything on that Hard Drive

1. format it then it will work in this computer you cant just take a harddrive out of one and put it in another system
