POWERCUT CAUSED MY COMPUTER NOT TO WORK .. RECENT SOFTWARE OR HARDWARE CHANGE?

Hi, we had a powercut yesterday and since then my computer will not start up. The fan comes on then goes off sometimes quick then sometimes longer and gets me to the menu .. "We apologize for the iconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose 'Last Know Good Confuguraltion' to revert to the most recent setings that worked. If a previous startup attemp was interrupted due to a power failure or because the power or reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose 'Start Windows Normally'. 1.Safe Mode 2.Safe Mode wth Networking 3.Safe Mode with Command Prompt 4.Last Know Configuration (your most recent settings that worked) 5.Start Windows Normally" i have tried most of them. i have clicked start windows and it starts to load windows but then the computer goes off and then do it all again. i have read through forums saying about the motherboard or PSU may need changing? Just wanted to see if anyone had a solution? Many thanks Thanks for the quick replies, i was afraid of having to do that. Would putting the vista disk in and doing repair still solve the problem? just so i can keep my files etc.

  1. Sudden loss could cause hd failure, it could of been reading/writing to system files when the power cut, reformat may fix
  2. sounds like you may need to reinstall windows, your hard drive may be broken, or your motherboard may be burned.
  3. Reformat and reinstall can solve your problem
  4. If you have your Windows installation disk with you, boot from it and do a repair.
