Are the sales of desktop computers going down due to the popularity of laptops/Netbooks & smartphones?

1. Yes, among some groups. People who merely want to use the internet, chat and surf to regular sites and who use a lot of web apps, have no real need for a desktop. A laptop or netbook replaces a desktop for those who want the above and other things like word-processing and some games. A desktop still has the edge on power (thoug laptops are getting more powerful), but desktops have the best ability for extension and upgrading and are still popular for power users.
2. I think slightly if you include laptops. Not many people want netbooks because you can't do much with them, and they definitely don't replace computers. However, Desktops definitely are going down in homes (although not in companies). Laptops are better because they are portable, can access wifi anywhere, and are just generally more convenient.
