Desktop Computer Packages

Offered a job today at a place where I would inspect computer hardware parts. How much would I need to know?

I'm not super computer savvy, but I definitely know a decent amount...but this job seems like I would need to know a lot? Would they at least train me a little? Anyone on here have this type of job?

  1. Well you would at least be able to identify the components in computers. Motherboards, RAM types, IDE or SATA drives and their corresponding part on the Motherboard. CPU's & Heatsinks & how to remove them. I would imagine you would need to be able to build a PC with your eyes closed (not literally, but you know what I mean). Chances are the training would only be company specific or for specialized hardware. You might need to know what RAM type goes with what motherboards & CPU's. It's hard to say what they might require. I employ 10 people to fix computers & in my business I could not afford to have someone who didn't know that if a FSB is 800MHz then you're going to need RAM that supports this. If they couldn't pick the right RAM out of a box of about 100 (all different) I wouldn't employ them.
