is it better to buy a whole computer pack or just the desktop?

i currently have a semi old HP computer. the monitor is pretty wide but i really dont mind its size. my system is pretty old and i would like to upgrade should i just buy the desktop or would it come out as a better deal to buy the whole package? i just need a basic home computer.

  1. get the whole package ..
  2. Get a package, coz price difference is not that much, This way u will get a better monitor, go for LCD flat panel monitor
  3. if its just basic keep the current monitor....you will notice the difference if you're editing pics/movies or even watching movies on your pc......you may find a deal where the monitor comes FREE....check this site its really good for PCs...awesome deals. slickdeals.net
  4. Yep, buy the package. This time of year the back to school sales give you a lot for your bucks.
  5. go with a package deal... dell has some good ones, or if your interested, build your own, you'll be able to get quality parts for the same price as other computers and you can get all the extra package stuff for cheap using newegg.com but yea, package is always better if you dont know what you are looking for and just want the basic
  6. Most of the time, it's best to get the package. Especially if you have sufficient funds. You can always re-calculate whether you actually need the contents of the package. However, home computer is not "basic", you know, especially if you have family. There will be many multimedia necessities, so i recommend the whole package.
  7. Okay, first you need to know if you are using a CRT or LCD monitor. The LCD will use less power since it does not get hot while running, which is a loss of use and expensive. Most newer systems come with LCD which are cheap to keep on. Next, all upgrades will cost more than a new system. Sure you can get the parts cheap, but they are not all compatible. You could buy a barebones system, and incorporate some of the parts of your existing system, but probably not all, especially the RAM. New systems run what is called DDR which is twice as fast as SDRAM. To learn what all of this means and to see if what you have is compaitble, visit my site below and read the Computer Talk section. Lastly, when you buy an all-in-one package, you will get all of the latest technology, including the new Windows Vista which is well worth the added price. Please don't ever try to save money re-using the older technology, it will cause heartache, as well as be economically a disadvantage when it comes to power consumption. Hope this helps
  8. You definitely should purchase the whole package because as the others have said, packages usually come cheaper and you know they are compatible with the system you have purchased, where the monitor that you currently have might not necessarily be. The only thing you need to realize, though, when going for a new computer, is while Vista is great, it is a system hog. Look for systems with a Duo/Dual-Core processor and at least 1GB of RAM memory (or more) for optimal performance. If you're into gaming and graphics, look for systems that also incorporate the NVIDIA GeForce graphics card. You'll also need to (more than likely) purchase a new printer because they're Vista compatible, where most of the older ones are not and don't even have drivers on their manufacturer's website to upgrade. Just my 2 cents. Hope it helps.
