What does the little circle with a crooked Z symbol mean on my IBM laptop computer?

There is a symbol next to the battery and plug lights on my IBM laptop and no one can seem to figure out what it is.

1. I believe it is the power ON indicator. The symbol is of a sine-wave. I just looked it up in a IBM Thinkpad manual.
