Desktop Computer Packages

My father gave me a second hand IBM laptop computer, but I can't open it. The password is not working?

I tried all means typing the password but to no avail. Could you help me the steps to turn it on?...

  1. What kind of password? Windows or BIOS?
  2. What you must do depends on who put the password-you, or the guy who owned the computer previously. If it is you, try your best to remember, and when you are typing your password, look out for CAPS LOCK which is a key on your keyboard which activates all capitals. If the password was put by someone else you have five options. 1.) type in all the things you can think of and see if it works-there are billions and billions (seriously) of possible combinations and almost impossible to get through. 2.)contact the previous owner of the computer-you can trace him from the second-hand shop owner etc. If all goes well this is a sure chance of success. 3.) Read about running an operating system from a CD, USB drive or external hard-drive. Run your PC from this other operating system. With an experienced IT personnel with you delete the operating system which is password-protected if possible. 4.) I'm not sure about this option but I think you can reinstall windows or other operating systems on SOME PC's, which should remove the password. 5.) If the two above are really hopeless and aren't working you have the most reliable and desperate choice. You shouldn't try this yourself if you are not a qualified computer serviceman because the static electricity made by the human body (even so small that you cannot feel) can seriously damage your computer parts. Well, you can call in a technician (this is a really small task so the price should be really small) tell him to replace the hard drive and re-install your operating system. First ask him whether it is advisable to do with your computer model. This will have you ending up with a password-free computer but you will lose all the data that had been stored on the other hard drive. So my overall advice is that you can try all the methods but BEFORE messing with hardware or the operating system, you MUST have a qualified IT SERVICEMAN WITH YOU After all your computer is worth more than a visit from a serviceman.
