anyone know how to fix IBM laptop computers, software?..i think?

i just got an IBM a friend of my dads gave it to him and hes not that great with computers so he gave it to me and told me to be careful it didnt have internet at the time but i found a cabel and i pluged it to my home computers modem to get internet its was working fine a few problems so i deleted msn and all that [toolbar included] for a while then it happened i was drowned in pop ups some of them actually downloaded them selfs to my desktop at first i could handle it but then my computer started freezing and hanging and two programs that i cant get rid of were downloaded on to my desktop and everytime i delete it it just comes back like a yo yo now i can hardly use my internet after a few seconds it hangs and freezes and every time i turn it on i get this pop up error and the programs look like normal stuff ones called help and support the other windows update but when i open them its exactly like an annoying pop up advert of some software thats supposed to help protect your cpu
