Can you use a home networking system if one computer is IBM and one is a MAC?

I have an IBM (gateway laptop) and my son has an IBM (Dell laptop). The interent and everything is in his room on his computer and we set up a network so that I could access the internet through his computer. Now my son wants a MAC and I don't know if we get one if we can still use our "family" network. Please help!

I would set up a wireless network. First put a cheap wireless card in each machine (if they don't already have wireless). Get a wireless router, and set it up to use your internet connection (hopefully you use cable internet - it's cheap and fast). Both the mac and the PC will connect to it - and you won't have to run any cabling.

Yes. Your computers communicate via TCP\IP not Windows, Mac, or even Linux. The issue will be trying to use Mac file formats (and vice-versa) on a windows computer. There are solutions you just have to look, for them.
