What are step by step instructions on what to do If I dropped my IBM laptop?

I accidently dropped my IBM laptopop about 3 feet ontp my hard wood floor. Now when I try to turn it on the screen stays black but I can hear the computer struggling to turn on. Apart from connecting it to a regular monitor what are some step by step instructions on what I can do to fix it without going toa proffesional?Reply quick!

1. you might have damaged the screen and there might be some motherboard or hard drive damaged just run some diagnostic tests to see laptops are pretty rugged on small drops like that. need more help let me know I repair computers
2. be smart and take it into the repair shop. messing with it yourself can only make it worse. those circuit boards are very brittle. you probably cracked one and broke the pathways.
