Where can I find a computer that isn't going to break the bank but has the capabilities I need?

I will soon be working from home and need to buy a computer (it can be either a desktop or a laptop, it doesn't matter). If I get a desk top, I want a package that has everything included. Not only will it be my home office computer, it will also hold my music, pictures and I will taking internet courses for college. I have looked at Best Buy and others. Basically I am wondering if there is this awesome computer site that has lower prices that I am missing. Any help is appreciated!

  3. definatly go with an HP. laptop or desktop. i had a gateway and it was a piece of crap. I got my HP laptop about 9 months ago at Best Buy for $1100. 2 gig memory, plenty of space (i'm a freelance graphic designer). Best Buy always has offers going on, I got mine for 6 months no interest on a best buy credit card. also with best buy you can get a rewards card, and since you will need plenty of stuff for your home office. for every dollar you spend you accumulate points and then get free stuff. they have great desktops there too. My mom just got an HP package deal, everything for $800, not as much memory as mine, but close. if you are going to be doing tons of work at home i would recomend a desktop. b/c when you are one the computer all day you want a big enough screen so your eyes dont hurt. if you get a bigger laptop then its harder to carry around, awkward and heavy.
  4. I was in a similar situation. I ended up buyint an ACER Laptop Core 2 Duo, with Acer Orbicam and a Media Center PC, with the OS Preloaded and a TV Tuner card, 256 nVidia Graphics, 16x double layer DVD writer, 1GB RAM... This configuration was the cheapest in acer last november.
