How can I reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows XP without the CD?
My Toshiba Satellite has slowed to an extremely slow pace after barely a year, and its definitely time to reformat the hard drive and reinstall everything. The problem is that Toshiba didn't include an XP installation CD in the package. I have the verification codes taped on the computer. I also have an OEM copy of Windows CD from a desktop computer at home. Can I use the OEM version to install windows after reformatting the hard drive, and use the laptop's security code to verify the installation of XP? Or can I copy the I386 folder to a blank CD and install XP from that? Anyone have any advice on how I should go about this?

- use the oem it will work bk up all ur drivers thou
- you can try it, why not just order the disk from toshiba
- om xp well i know that every disk has its own code to it so i would not sugest to you to just install it because you need to know the code to that disk. so all you can do is attempt to cleen out the pc.
- No you can't use the OEM form the desktop, it wont work. If no CD's came with your computer you were supposed to create them by doing this. Otherwise contact Toshiba and they will send you the CDs. Creating the recovery discs in Windows Click Start, click All Programs, select System Recovery, and click Create Recovery Disks. The PC Recovery Disk Creator utility displays a message indicating the type and number of media disks required. Verify the required number of media disks are available. Click Next to begin the actual copying process. Remove written disk and insert additional disks when prompted. Label each disk, in sequence it was created, as prompted. Store the newly created set of recovery disks in a safe place.
- See if your laptop has a recovery partition.Your recovery software could be in a hidden partition on the hard drive. Look in your programs menu should be some Toshiba software on there. If there is theres a key you can press after you boot it to enter the recovery process. You can go to the Toshiba website to see what the key is. By OEM I think you mean recovery CDs from another system and you cant use those on your lap.
